A simple checklist to work through before baby arrives, or any time you’re restocking the bathroom shelf.
Before baby arrives
- ☐ Baby bath or bath insert
- ☐ Gentle, tear-free, soap-free wash (a good all-purpose option, or a 2-in-1 for hair and body)
- ☐ Two or three soft washcloths
- ☐ A hooded towel (or two, for backup)
- ☐ Bath thermometer
- ☐ A safe, flat surface for change-and-dress straight after bath
Once baby has more hair
- ☐ A dedicated baby shampoo
- ☐ A soft-bristled baby brush, if useful for cradle cap or general grooming
Nice to have, not essential
- ☐ Baby moisturiser, for skin that runs dry
- ☐ Bath toys, once baby is old enough to enjoy them
- ☐ A bath-time book or two, for the toddler stage
Worth skipping
Bubble bath, heavily scented products, and multiple different washes “just in case” — most newborns do best with one simple, gentle formula used consistently.
